Perimeter
Trail at Camp Maywood Wilderness Opened
A 2 mile
trail around the property of Camp Maywood Wilderness was dedicated on Saturday,
May 9th in memory of long-time Friend of Scouting, Marvin Knight who
passed away earlier this year. Marv spent many, many hours at the camp always
looking for ways to make it better, helping wherever and whenever necessary. He
served as the Property Chairman for the camp the past four years and was
instrumental in helping renovate the barn as well as giving leadership to the
construction of the new maintenance and storage building. Marv invested not only
his time at the camp but his finances and other material resources he was able
to procure to help make the camp a safe and well maintained facility.
The Marv
Knight trail was designed and cleared by a number of Scouts and leaders from
Twin Lakes and Voyageur districts as well as other troop members who were
looking for conservation projects during their weekend outings at the camp. The
head of the trail will be marked by a gateway with Marv’s name inscribed on it
as well as a map of the trail for all to follow. Along the trail will be
markers identifying which way to go that are designed with Marv’s trademark
handlebar mustache.
Marv will
be missed at the camp and other Scouting events, but his memory will live on for
many generations when Scouts take a walk around the camp on the Marv Knight
Trail. “Happy Trails Marv”. You will be missed.
Special
thanks to the Scout leaders from the Twin Lakes district who developed the plan
and cleared the trail, and for their great talent and resources to construct the
trail sign and markers. |
