Monday, June 1 – Monday, June 8 — #getinthedirt #growing #plants #homegrown
Growing as a scout and growing something in the earth or for one’s self is important. Home grown plants whether they are food for the table or something to learn from is an effort for the future. Have fun #getinthedirt this week and grow some amazing #homegrown #plants.
Make sure you take some photos or videos of your activities and share them via Facebook, Twitter and/or Instagram and include #ScoutingAtHome @BayLakesCouncil @Bay-Lakes Council Scouting @ Home Collaboration
Here are some great ideas that include some ADVANCEMENT opportunities to do with your family!
Lions – “Ready, Set, Grow” – Learn the basic skills of what is needed to take care of a garden. Learn where the food we all eat comes from and plant a small container garden or a garden outdoors.
Tigers — “Tiger Tag” – Let’s get active and healthy to grow a strong body. Select an active outside game that you can do with your family. Following the game, discuss what it is to be a good sport.
Wolfs — “Grow Something” – Get outdoors and plant a seed. Learn about what grows in your area. Grow additional seeds in a seed tray and a sweep potato in water.
Bears — “Fur, Feathers and Ferns” – Let’s learn about composting! Why is important and how is composting done. Plant a vegetable or herb garden.
Webelos & Arrow of Light — “Into the Woods” – Identify four plants and how they are used in our everyday occurrences. Create a care plan for a garden or a tree. Identify two groups or parts of a tree and identify four local trees and how they are used.
Scouts BSA Youth & Venturers – Let’s learn about nature and how we get our food to our table to consume. Learn more by starting your Gardening and Forestry Merit Badge. Make sure you ask your Scoutmaster for permission and suggestions for merit badge counselors.
