Yep. Spring is definitely here.  Another beautiful day walking around at Bear Paw for Maple Syrup Days. Not only did I get to enjoy the nice weather, but I saw friends I hadn’t seen in over a year and definitely ate more maple-flavored goodies than I needed to.  Another perfect day for Scouting.

When I was a Scout, I always enjoyed going to camp. I was able to hang out with friends and do things that, because I lived in town, I couldn’t do at home. While there were great leaders there to keep an eye on me, I always felt a sense of independence and responsibility.

The big decisions I made, like whether I should put on clean socks, help gather wood for a fire or go to my merit badge classes were important. At least it seemed so at the time. To this day, I remember clearly the sights, sounds (and smells) of camp. They are truly some of my fondest memories.

As leaders, it is up to us to make those same opportunities available to today’s Scouts. To help them try something new and exciting. Bay-Lakes Council has made great strides to improve our camp experience for the young people we serve. So, sign your units up for camp today! Not only is it important to the Scouts, but it’s also important to the long-term sustainability of our camps.
